The Shore House at Lake Tahoe
Your Host
Barb and Marty have lived at Lake Tahoe since
1973, and Jake, their son, was born at the lake in 1984. Marty and Barb
met at a Chamber of Commerce meeting in the summer of 1979, when Marty owned
Tahoe Crafts Printing Company, and Barb owned Basecamp, a backpacking, cross
country ski and bicycle shop. they married at Lake Tahoe in September,
1980, and renewed their vows on their 25th Anniversary on the lawns of the Shore
House with many friends, family, fine music, food, tears, smiles and the lake
and the mountains providing the backdrop.
Marty and Barb are both ministers of the
Universal Life Church, and have performed over 750 weddings at the Shore House.
Barb is also a Notary Public, authorized to issue Placer County Confidential
Wedding Licenses. Barb is a Certified Massage Therapist and an award
winning Bed and Breakfast Chef. Marty owned restaurants in his early years
and was a professional chef as well. He also holds a Captain's
License from the U. S. Coast Guard and pilots the "Lady of the Lake" cabin
cruiser.
Barb has been an outdoorswoman for most of her
life. She has backpacked and hiked in Canada, Nepal, Peru, and many areas
of the US. She has traveled to Europe, Asia, South America, and to most
countries of North and Central America. She is an avid reader, and taught
Psychology and Sociology for 15 years for Sierra College in Rocklin and Sierra
Nevada College in Incline village. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 1969,
and got her Masters in Psychology from San Jose State University in 1973.
Marty graduated from the University of
Connecticut in 1969, while owning a restaurant and a gas station which helped
him pay for college, and gave him his start as an entrepreneur. He spent 6
months driving cross country in 1973, looking for eternal summer. He
arrived in Arizona in July, and finding 115 degrees and no trees, decided
to look elsewhere. He fell in love with the beauty of Lake Tahoe, and
started a magazine which he printed himself, while opening another restaurant,
The Loft, in Kings Beach. As both businesses grew, he decided to sell the
restaurant and stick with the printing. It was called Tahoe Crafts
Printing, which grew into the largest printing company in the area. Marty
sold it after 25 years in 1998. Marty set up a little shop at the Shore
House and prints all our Shore House gear. Marty is the proud owner of a
Harley Fat Boy, which he rides as often as possible, and he keeps healthy and
strong by practicing karate regularly.
Jake is graduating from UC San Diego in June,
2006 with a Major in Economics and a minor in Theatre. He was a ski racer
for most of his life, and now is Co-Captain of the UCSD ski team. He
seems to have taken the best from both parents, being a backpacker, skier, and
budding entrepreneur. We will keep you posted on his future projects.
