Things to do in Lake Tahoe

Many people do not realize how much there is to do at Lake Tahoe.

Relax while The Shore House helps you plan the perfect vacation with activities including skiing, snowmobiling, fishing and much more. Our bed and breakfast lodge is ideally nested, lake front at the base of the mountains on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, central to all of the activities and attractions. To keep energized, begin each day with our special gourmet breakfast.

Here is our suggested itinerary including some of our favorite activities for the perfect Tahoe visit. Of course, we can help you design your own itinerary around your particular interests.

Start each day with a gourmet breakfast at the Shore House in our lake front dining room.

Every afternoon, come back to the Shore House for a soak in our lakefront hot tub,

then watch the sunset with a glass of wine on the Shore House pier.

During the Warmer Months

Day 1
3-hour cruise on the Shore House Yacht "Lady of the Lake" or sailing tour on the Woodwind.
Drive around the lake, stopping at Emerald Bay for a hike to Eagle Falls and Eagle Lake.
Walk to dinner at the Old Range Steak House, the best steaks and prime rib in town, just across the street.

Day 2
Canoe or kayak to Crystal Bay Point
Take sandwiches from our local Deli for a picnic on the boulders.
Get a relaxing massage at the Shore House.
Walk to dinner at Spindleshanks American Bistro.  (Back to Top)

Day 3
Parasailing or jetskiing off the beach in Kings Beach
Rent bikes - ride along the Truckee river or west shore
Dinner at Sunnyside on the West Shore of the Lake, American style cuisine with an old Tahoe flare   (Back to Top)

Day 4
Hike 2 1/2 miles to 5 lakes above Alpine Meadows.
Take the tram to the top of Squaw Valley and go ice skating while looking at spectacular views of Lake Tahoe.
Dinner at GarWoods, great meat, great fish, wonderful appetizers, and live music on Friday and Saturday nights.   (Back to Top)

Day 5
Rise early to take a fishing charter on Lake Tahoe. With our recommended guide you'll catch your limit.
18 holes of golf at the Incline village Chamionship Golf Course.

Day 6
River rafting on the Truckee River from Tahoe City to River Ranch
Horeseback riding into the mountains above Squaw Valley.
An afternoon Hot Tub and nap.

Day 7
Hot air balloon ride over Lake Tahoe or rent your own power boat for a cruise in the calm morning waters.
Shop for gifts to take home in Tahoe City and Truckee.

During the Colder Months

Day 1
A fabulous day of skiing at Alpine Meadows. (We have discounted lift tickets)
Return to the Shore House and soak those tired muscles in our lakefront hot tub.

Day 2
Another fabulous day of skiing at Northstar-at-Tahoe, known for their long wide beautifully groomed runs. (We have discounted lift tickets)
Get a relaxing massage in your room from one of our house call masseuses.
Dinner at Big Water Grille, American contemporary cuisine with Mediterranean and Pacific Rim influences.  (Back to Top)

Day 3
Take the day off from skiing and drive around the lake, stopping at Emerald Bay for some of the most beautiful views in the world, and then to
Zephr Cove for a 2-hour cruise on the M S Dixie. (The lake looks very different from the water.)
Dinner at Fiamma, Northern Italian cuisine, a very intimate and romantic restaurant.  (Back to Top)

Day 4
Skiing at Squaw Valley, our largest North Shore ski area, with plenty of black diamond runs, then
Take the tram to the top of Squaw Valley for late afternoon ice skating or tubing.
Dinner at GarWoods, great meat, great fish, wonderful appetizers, and live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Be careful of their Wet Woodys, their house specialty drink, they go down too easy.   (Back to Top)

Day 5
Rise early to take a fishing charter on Lake Tahoe. With our recommended guide you'll catch your limit.
Try an afternoon of cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Take a hike to a near by mountain top for some breath taking views of Lake Tahoe and have a picnic in the warm winter sun, with some treats and wine that you brought along from one of our local delis. then
Dinner at La Fondue, a fun Swiss Style Fondue and Schnitzel restaurant in Incline Village.  (Back to Top)

Day 6
Sleep in a little longer this morning, then go snowmobiling through the Tahoe forests...talk about exhilarating.
Then head to Truckee for a little gift shopping, then
An afternoon Hot Tub and nap.

Day 7
One more day of skiing at Mount Rose, with the highest base elevation of all the Tahoe ski areas. This means lots of powder.
